5Keys Backing combines in-person and behind the wheel coaching to teach effective techniques to reduce such accidents. Drivers learn why backing is so hazardous and how to apply The Smith5Keys® to maneuvers in close quarters and thus to significantly lower risk.
This full-day course teaches up to five drivers at a time how to avoid backing whenever possible and to properly use safe backing techniques to avoid crashes when backing is necessary. Trainees learn how to better understand visibility and maneuvering challenges, including proper mirror adjustment, gauging vehicle blind spots, and close-quarter and parking exercises.
At completion, drivers receive a Smith System certificate and performance evaluation, a Backing, Parking and Close Maneuvering Study Guide to reinforce the course’s safe driving lessons, and access to our on-line portal to keep a record of completed courses and if applicable at your organization, access to the Smith System e-Learning library.
This course is available via Open Enrollment or On-Site at a location of your choice.
If you have employees in various locations or have only a few in need of training, our 4-hour Open Enrollment option is a great alternative. When you make this choice, we provide the training location and vehicle, so all you have to do is show up prepared to learn. 5Keys Backing, and many other Smith System courses, are held throughout the year in small classes across the U.S. and Canada.
When you choose On-Site training, a certified Smith System instructor will come to your location. You provide the location, a parking lot of at least 400 feet by 600 feet, safety cones, and a training vehicle.
