Consulting Service Agreements may be structured to include the following;

• Annual or semiannual on-site DOT compliance audits

Audits are focused on verifying and quantifying regulatory compliance and overall safety program effectiveness.  Clients may expect a detailed written report of audit findings with recommendations for improvement.  Particular  focus is given to acute violations requiring immediate action.              

• On-going technical support for regulatory questions and safety program implementation

Small and mid-size fleets often lack the resources to sponsor a full-time safety professional.   Smith System consultants serve as fleet safety experts “on-call” and as needed.

• After hours emergency technical support

Questions, concerns, incidents and situations don’t always arise Monday – Friday, 8:00am to 5:00pm. Smith System consultants are available after hours to provide technical advice when needed.

• Accident mitigation support

Commercial fleets operate in a litigious environment and motor vehicle crashes are usually costly, regardless of fault.  Smith System consultants are available to help clients minimize risk and improve defensibility in legal actions.

• Monitoring the Portal for issues requiring immediate attention

The FMCSA is migrating all carriers to the Compass Portal for monitoring roadside inspections, CSA scores, and Data Q.  Smith consultants stand ready to monitor Portal accounts and support immediate carrier actions on any events that require driver feedback or data correction.

• Support prior to and during a DOT Compliance Review

Notification of a DOT Compliance Review (CR) can be overwhelming and intimidating.   Smith consultants are available to perform a CR pre-audit to identify issues or concerns that can be addressed prior to the DOT CR and support the carrier during the CR process. 

• Review and evaluation of Hazardous Materials programs, security plans and training for carriers of Hazardous Materials

Fleets that offer or transport hazardous materials must comply with the security plan requirements and a carrier may not transport a hazardous material by motor vehicle unless each of its Haz Mat employees has been trained.  Smith consultants are experienced in all facets of hazardous materials transportation, security and training requirements.

• On-site or Webinar Safety training, meetings or seminars

Smith consultants can bring their knowledge and experience to the client location for training, safety meetings or safety seminars focused on the needs of the drivers, management team or both.
